We Made It!

We made it! We arrived safe and sound in Guangzhou. The plane rides from Seattle to Beijing and then from Beijing to Guangzhou were perfect. The shuttle ride from Guangzhou airport to the White Swan hotel was treacherous. That was my first experience in a small vehicle like that on the roads in China. I don't think there are any rules on the road here. Nevertheless, we managed to get in around 11:30 pm on Thursday night. We were quite exhausted and ready to turn in.

Our hotel rooms are adjoining and overlook the Pearl River (we're on the 9th floor). Last night it was very beautiful, with the lights on the buildings on the other bank reflecting on the water. This morning (Friday the 20th), it's not so pretty...it's a very gray and hazy morning. We're expecting very hot and humid temperatures today...and the next day, and the next day. Well, Jan is waiting for me to go downstairs for a late breakfast. Today we plan to relax, get adjusted, look around, and start doing a little shopping if we're up to it.

By the way, we saw this sign in the Beijing airport. Can any of you tell me what this means? The best I can figure is "Watch out for radioactive children. They may try to scare you, and the girls only have one leg."

I think it is a play area for kids. That is the the international symbol for radioactive soccer ball :-). Glad you made it - enjoy the mountain chicken (snake).

How about, if you jump into a fan, you will lose and leg and become a girl?
